damien rice beats out the yyys, cat power, sigur ros, interpol, the streets and more to win the short list prize, the shorty. i didn't damien rice was that unknown. but i suppose it is true he doesn't get played on the radio... yet.

everyone who was nominated played except for the yyys and sigur ros. Paul Banks, the typically taciturn singer of Interpol, said during the band's set that if he were in the audience, he probably would have considered the show the best he had ever seen.
