summertime and so what?

peeps, i'm feeling so much better than i have been. it's a sweet relief to be able to breathe again without feeling like there's a heartache a'brewing. or heart attack, rather.

on friday i went to see summerstage with stellastarr*, yeah yeah yeahs and devo. fucking devo! are we not men? we are devo! it was raining steadily during stellastarr*'s set, but there was something magical about rock and roll in the rain. there's a sweet abandon that sparkles as the stage is encased in sprinkles of rain in the middle of central park! so pretty. they had the best sound out of all the bands, and as the entrancing notes of "moon girl" filled central park, i couldn't help but be excited for them. the fans up front and center were dancing up a storm as per usual during "my coco." i was pretty siked for them. it's nice to see a local band on the up and up. especially with the music industry flagging like it is. did you hear sony is laying off 2000 people worldwide? what's up with that?

anyhoo, i had to delve into the crowd during the yeah yeah yeahs' set. the rain had subsided, and karen o was all like, "where's the raaaaaain!??? i was expecting punk rock punk rock! i mean it's been a couple years since i've gone out to see this band. cmj halloween 2002 to be exact. crazy eh? so i was expecting hardcore goodness to be gushing out of karen o... and i got mush instead! lots of new songs seemed to start off their set... then they played "art star" and "year to be hated" and later ended their set lowkey with "maps" and "modern romance." i felt a little gypped. i wanted to dance and get all crazy, but maybe those days are long gone for the yyys? maybe they'll come back soon though. i want tough! i did like how karen o kept yelling things all gutteral like -- like marg cho or something. re: maps, she was all like, THIS SONG IS ABOUT LUUUUUUUUUUURVE! i still love her.

devo was a trip. devo fans were even trippier. i liked how they ended their set with "a beautiful world" and it was all feel good. i called cameron to let him hear it all and he was all like, "why do they sound like elmo?" ahahahahaha! then as soon as their set ended, the rain poured forth from the heavens as if on cue. craziness. i was drunk on heineken and amstel lights, and making my way home in the wettest pair of vans you ever saw. so nasty!!! but that's new york in the summertime.

as much as i love vans (they're pretty much all i wear) when they're wet, they indeed suck. still though, just like mishie, i'm really happy to read that, at least for the moment, you're on the sunny side of the street. scat turdly
