it's only like a 10 minute distraction from work. try making yourself
i'm not sure if this looks like me. maybe add like 25 pounds. not everyone is a friggin' japanime character.
anyhoo... what have i been doing... friday night the show went well, but i was running on like 3 hours of sleep. thursday night i had hung out with jo for the first part of the evening. i tried to catch sam champion at pianos, but got there too late (goddamnit). then i was gonna watch death from above (who were playing under "look out below") but decided to try and get away from the enormous crowd (i am claustrophobic). noah, ryan and i went to meet up with jay and the gang at plant bar, or whatever it is called now. i found i out that i actually knew the girl who owned the bar. and i also ran into a college friend at the bar, who used to date the owner's college roommate -- if you can follow that...
we left the bar for jay's place. smoked too much. i discovered captain morgan tastes like candy. then i passed out. the next day, i woke up, went to brooklyn, showered and got dressed and circled right back to work. this all seems very boring to me now that i'm typing it out. sorry, but this is how my mind wanders...
friday was fun at knitting factory, and i met some really cool people, including some stoner russian groupies of pilot to gunner. they tried in vain to steal my lilac lighter for their drug purposes (as they giggled at each other and took digital pictures of each other smoking from the pipe. don't worry i got my lighter back.
everyone who played was pretty awesome. i really enjoyed the roger sisters' cover of "driven to tears." miyuki is a punk rock star because he just let's go on stage and goes wild. the sisters were also so tough and fierce, i was envious. they are the kinda girls i would love to be.
shy child were also really good. parts + labor were really good. beans was really good. pilot to gunner were really good. i guess you could say, everyone was really good, and friendly. what more can you really ask for?
i spent all day saturday watching katy's movies: old school and prey for rock and roll. old school was good. prey for rock and roll, not so much. best line: "is this a rock and roll intervention?"
on sunday, i was woken up by george: "yo get the fuck up! it's 1:30!" george and i hung out pretty much all day on sunday. we made sandwiches and watched some video footage i had taken on friday night. then we headed into the city and went to see "the forgotten". that movie was wack and cheesy. i kept laughing at all the "scary" parts. damn. i need to do more research before heading to the theaters. then later that night, i made dinner for everyone, and then headed to tonic to see slow six, george's friend's band. they were really wonderful and spacey. i found myself getting lost in my own thoughts... kinda depressing actually.
we got to see part of another cool act though that was experimental improvisation: shelley hirsch doing some crazy avant garde scatting with a dry mic, a reverb and chorus mic and a mic set to a delay pedal. she was accompanied by an even crazier but awesome cellist named okkyoung lee. girl could make some great music that seemed both scattered and deliberate, but looked like she was playing with all parts of her arms and hands. amazing.
