sea ray, say hi to your mom @ mercury lounge
ok so daylen had invited me to a girly night at 2a. i was happy about this because all week i've been looking forward to that friday night drinking. the kind of drinking one does to relieve some stress. in my case, it's not "some" stress, but a shitload of stress. as my dayjob heads into the busy season, i am left gasping for a breath. grasping for any semblance of a social life. so here it is. a night out at happy hour with a couple of my girls and a couple of daylen's girls. and let me tell you, it was a blast! must repeat soon.then we rushed on over to this mexican restaurant around the corner from mercury lounge. daylen and i met up with her friend and we were waiting waiting waiting for our food. at 9:30 we were like, shit eric is on stage right now. fuck fuck fuck! we have to leave and our food is not out. i told the waitress that our friend would wait at the table (thank you btw!). and daylen and i rushed back to mercury lounge to see say hi to your mom. i was happy to see jeff from sea ray on the drum kit and hightower on bass. this was quite an interesting set up. i was really jamming out to this new shtym song (it must be new because i had never heard it before!). awesomeness. as soon as his last song was over, daylen and i rushed back to the restaurant, scarfed our food down and then ran back to mercury lounge. i talked with eric for a while at the merch table. those sea ray tees were selling like hotcakes.
then we all rushed in to the main room to watch sea ray's last performance. the house was packed, the people were buzzing, and after 5 drinks and a chimichanga in my tummy, my head was spinning and my stomach was turning. bad move, jinny jin jin. what were you thinking? sea ray's set however was nothing short of glorious, minus a few feedback issues. their music is consuming as it swirls around your head, enters your ears and coos at the pleasure centers of your brain. euphoric and emotional, they are one of those bands that will be talked about for years to come, and hopefully one day, they will reunite and make music again. crossing my fingers!
it was nice to see all the peeps there supporting the local music scene. we make our own history, peeps, but we can only do it with each others' pat on the back.
brooklyn vegan has better photos than me, so go check that shit out. how are we at the same shows and never meet?
