jinners: why do you come here? and why do you hang around?

Wednesday, September 28, 2005

this morning i was on the subway and my mp3 player ran out of battery so i didn't have any music to fill my head. it was right in the middle of modest mouse's "custom concern." i was sipping my americano, which i've recently become addicted to. i started thinking about things i missed in my life. it made me nervous because i don't like feeling vulnerable.

i watched the dylan/scorsese documentary, no direction home, on sunday with susan and doug. we sat there mesmerized for over 3 hours. i was fascinated that such an old voice came out of dylan when he was so babyfaced, and he didn't really care too much... or so it seems. he was so contradictory in many ways. he didn't want to make sense to his fans. he didn't care about giving them what they wanted. instead, he stuck to what he wanted to do with his life, no matter whose feelings got hurt or what priceless records he had to steal.

to continue my sort of canadian fetish, i've begun to watch this defunct tv show called wonderfalls, courtesy of netflix. it's about a slacker ivy leaguer who works in a niagara falls souvenir shop. inanimate objects start talking to her and telling her what to do. as a result, she starts helping people, much to her slacker chagrin. it's really quirky. but there should be more moments when animals are talking. and what keeps me watching? two reasons... tyron leitso (matthew fox lookalike) and lee pace.

Wonderfalls is great, and gets better as the series goes on. And I can't judge you for watching it for the actors since I have a little shrine to Caroline Dhavernas in my room...
