dirty on purpose, the a-sides, okay paddy, the teeth @ the khyber
last night i totally fell in love with the khyber rock venue in philly. there were charming rock posters hanging everywhere in the main performance space that held 200 max. the bar was separate but had that same narrow corridor feeling to mercury lounge. the performance space was grungy and dark -- creating this very cozy atmosphere that was probably most held by venues like luxx or brownies in new york(r.i.p. to both those).
the bands we played with were fun indie bands as well. some from the neighboring suburbs of philly that i grew up in, it was really nice to see that the quality of music doesn't suffer. i never thought that philly had an "indie scene," but i was proven wrong by what i saw last night. there were tons of indie-loving kids coming out to support the bands tonight. i even met a 38-year-old father of 4 (with another one on the way) who was out at the show to support his friends band okay paddy (their cd release show). it was just nice to see that everyone was friendly and into music as much as the 20 year old skinny indie rocker from williamsburg. even more so, even. the vibe of the place was intoxicating. there was a dance party going on upstairs. the dop set, which i realized was full of all new songs went over exceptionally well with the crowd, who were making lots of noise after each song. it felt awesome.
oh, and one thing i like about the tripwire review (i posted the review below this one), is that i do think dirty on purpose is total makeout music. they just create this warm, fuzzy atmosphere that is quite intoxicating and romantic. it's totally something where you dim the lights or burn candles and lock lips with someone till they're pounding from the friction.
