I know I've been talking a lot about safety lately, but my roommates just got mugged at gunpoint in my neighborhood. I just wanted to warn people to take the main roads like Metropolitan. They got mugged by 13 year old kids on North 7th Street at around 8 p.m. A cop car actually passed by them shortly after the incident, and they tried to flag it down -- but the car didn't stop. Please be careful, and walk down busy streets. And please do remember to notify the cops because apparently there have been a few other incidents of muggings on North 7th recently. If they know it is happening a lot, they will be more likely to patrol those areas or do more to make those streets safer. Here is a no nonsense self defense site mikers sent me.

what time did this happen? north 7th is dangerous over by the school. i had a friend who got mugged there back in '99 by some gun-toting girls! i kid you not. the neighborhood's changed a lot since then, but not as much as we'd like to think.
it happened around 8. crazy.
is it my imagination or do most muggings happen around 8-9pm? nearly everyone i know (myself included) who have been jumped have had it happen right around then. it's like it's not late enough for most people to think it could be dangerous but early enough that the kids are still on the street.
