when i was younger, i used to go to this presbyterian church with some school friends. there, i met one of my oldest friends. we used to sit through sermons and pass each other notes. one day she passed me a note that said, "i think charlatan is my new favorite word." that's around the time we started getting into the charlatans uk. i bought some friendly on cassette (yes, they still sold cassettes back then), and i was won over by songs like "you're not very well" and "the only one i know." fast forward to today, when the charlatans are playing webster hall in new york tonight (why isn't it sold out yet, peoples???), and tim burgess is dj'ing at beauty bar at the after-party with lio from kanine records and crashin' in. sooooo wild to me. call me jitters.
