recapping last week...

so i went to go see silversun pickups last week on wednesday at mercury lounge because I became obsessed with them ever since joe from dop played me their ep a while back. plus, i'm digging their new record, carnavas, and had to see them in one of my fave nyc venues. sspu played to a packed house on a rainy night, but they pulled through like pros, despite the fact that they were completely exhausted from non-stop traveling. i love brian aubert's semi-sadistic growl. it frightens me... but in a good way.

friday was full of friendly goodness... first, the wonderful and amazing jo divestar had a fantastic birthday dinner at friend house (3rd avenue between 12th and 13th). this place had chinese, japanese and thai food. the lychee sake is amazing. so is the mango sake. there were too many food choices on the menu, it took us a while to decide what to eat. not a bad thing, in my opinion... i've been missing hanging out with jo. lately it feels like i don't have enough lady friends. apparently, they're all fleeing the city. first jo goes back to long island. then juliet goes to south korea. then jenna went to a cheese farm -- and now she's in greece learning how to make olive oil. they have all found peace outside of new york. i wonder if i will have to move out of the city to find the inner peace i am seeking. well, that won't happen for a while! no need to panic.

speaking of jenna, mike and i also went to say goodbye to jenna that night. we went up to some bar called Tonic East, which is officially the worst bar in new york city. don't ever go there. they have like 10 huge flat screen tvs with various sports games and lots of lame people (sorry). and their nachos smell like bad breath. yuck. i will miss jenna, but she looks so healthy and happy, how can i knock her decision to leave the city? the country farm air does this pennsyltuckian good.

saturday was the one year anniversary party for sugar high social. it was an elegant potluck. we all dressed up in some fancy gear (the guys wore suits!) and ate way too much. sarah ellis made one of the best treats of the evening, monkeybread. i couldn't stop eating that thing. i made another boob cake, which was more of a visual experience than a tasting experience. jason's peach cobbler was freaking awesome. mike made what we are dubbing "turtle soup." it's basically chocolate pudding with fudge brownie bites and other goodies dumped in. i woke up the next morning with the worst stomach ache ever.

then we spent a really nice day in boerum hill, which is only a G train ride away. mike and i basically hung out with my new OTM assistant, eric, and his wife allison all day. it was kind of nice just sitting around talking.

my schedule lately has been fucking crazy, and i apologize to all my friends and family who i haven't had much time to talk to. maybe things will slow down a little once cmj is over and i've sent the boys on the road. some exciting news i have is that mike and i are going to iceland to see the sugarcubes reunion with bjork! i can't believe it. i'll be covering the event for filter -- my second assignment! it will be nice to have a couple days to see the sights too. it will be my second international trip ever!
