kimya dawson

this is just priceless, from kimya:
hi everybody. i am playing at sound fix records on bedford ave and north 11th in williamsburg on wednesday the 1st at 9pm. i am going to try to play a 2 hour set and i will have prerelease copies of my new album available. and "i spooned kimya" trucker hats for sale too!!! it will be fun. no helicopters allowed.

ahem, when are we gonna start making "i rocked jinners" buttons?

how awesome is awesome?

sometimes it feels like there is so much going on, my head is going to explode -- like that white supremicist on chappelle show. and people, does crack really make people horny, or is that just a yoda thing? oh that dave chappelle.

i finally went and joined myspace.com. why? i dunno. why not? search for "missjinners at gmail".

the walkmen have a show at columbia university this saturday. try to sneak in and scream lovely things like "french vacation" or "that's the punchline!" as you can tell, i'm hoping they will play some oldies, though i think the new album is stellar too.

i went to boston on saturday as the band was playing this party called the plan at a club called the great scott. i had a pretty good time actually, and seeing young indie lovers in a city other than new york was quite ... awesome. the club's soundguy had this amazing mohawk. and one of the party planners, carl, was the nicest of the nice. i fell in love with the girl dj -- victoria? -- she was spinning some really great stuff including: the walkmen, secret machines, and neutral milk hotel. it made me want to dance, but the sad part was that indie kids in boston are just as standstill as the ones in new york. le sigh.

one highlight of our road trip: finding a blinging "awesome" necklace in a rest stop. sweet.

we were worried about what kind of traffic we would run into getting back into the city on sunday so we drove all night back from boston and arrived back in new york at 6 a.m. i was like a comatose doofus, mumbling from my lack of sleep. i spent most of sunday with katy watching chappelle show and sex and the city (the episodes with aiden), much to the chagrin of anna.

oh where oh where is jinny jin jin?

that's me, by the way. steadily recovering... from god knows what. but not to worry, i will return in full force once my head is clear. in the mean time, there is so much great rock coming ahead of us. melvins are playing with vaz at webster hall. holy moly.

are you throwing a party for cmj music marathon? let me know. i'm going to compile a bunch of them and post them. and hey, if you need a dj, you know where to find me.

my most favoritest song of the moment:
hot snakes - "why does it hurt?"

hot snakes is playing in new york on october 9 at north six. fucking hot! pretendo is a nw band on krs/5rc that play nintendo music or something. wtf?!?

do you believe music has the power to heal?

i've always believed there was some therapeutic goodness to music. that's why we listen to it, isn't it? ultimately, i think we are looking for music to cure what ails us. it's better than tyenol, yo. last night, i was too ill to attend the fader libertines party so i wandered over to chill out at band practice. listening to the music, my heart started pacing and my spirits were instantly high like a sugar rush. i could breathe again. sigh. also, to the person who controls the weather, thanks for bringing out the sunshine today. i think i can safely say we all needed it after such a fucking gray, depressing past week!

oh that karen carpenter certainly didn't know how to cheer anyone up on days like this.

passions galore

the walkmen! let's not forget why this blog started in the first place. it was when a copy of everyone who pretended to like me landed on my desk, that i fell in love -- completely in love -- with the new york music scene. my heart swelled last night when i was listening to this album in juliet's apt. oh bestill my soul. nothing is so-so when hamilton's vocals are voicing my heart. nothing is dead when the walkmen are ruling the rawk.

they are playing webster hall on october 29 as part of bowery presents. you better scoop tickets because this show is gonna top everything else in rocktober. and you don't want to be missing when they hit that shit.

tonight some band called !!! is dj'ing at tommy's tavern in greenpoint. make it a dance revolution. shara will give you a pin if you do. those are hot stuff. (((1041 Manhattan Ave @ Freeman | Greenpoint, Brooklyn | 718.383.9699 | G Train to Greenpoint Ave)))

also, the tarts of pleasure are dj'ing at red and black in williamsburg off the bedford L stop -- part of belvy's freezepop party or something like that. you know where it is. they start spinning the fun dancey stuff at 11 p.m. (((135 N. 5th Street))) sweet.

why do the unicorns make me so happy? i was a born a unicorn... i could've sworn you believed in me... blah blah blah... how come all the other unicorns are dead?!?

music isn't the only thing that gets ripped

this morning my coffee tasted like ass. i'm not even kidding. it's making me feel ill. that's the worst way to start off any day. anyhoo, we all know how music can get us through the day. here's a couple tracks i can't stop listening to:

the unicorns - "les os"
i love you but i've chosen darkness - "i want to die in the hot summer"
neutral milk hotel - "two-headed boy"
the vaselines - "you think you're a man"
moving units - "between us and them"
mountain goats - "two-headed boy"
