jet lagged and missing new york

i've been in LA all week, and missing new york so desperately. was working out here at the ascap "i create music" expo, which was actually an amazing conference. after hours and hours and hours of relentless work, i'm exhausted at the end of the week. there were several favorite moments for me, but my brain is a little foggy right now... but they include tom petty, jimmy jam, desmond child, john rich, lori mckenna, glen phillips (singing "all i want"!!!!!!!!!! soooo 90s), ledisi and running randomly into akiko.

i had never really been to LA before, so it was nice to get some spontaneous tours from my coworker jeff (luckily everyone in LA seems to have a car). last night we all managed to hit amoeba records before it closed, and i bought pavement's shady lane single (out of print!). other things: ordering double double in n out burgers at 1 am PST. throwing it up the next morning. driving around on mulholland avenue. rodeo drive. sunset blvd. touring the kodak theater. hollywood walk of fame. getting jeff's tabloid-like tour of LA (ie: this is where lindsay lohan crashed her car, this is where janis joplin OD'd, this is where river phoenix OD'd, this is where JFK and Marilyn Monroe had their affairs, etc). we told jeff he needed to start his own guided tour of LA and call it Jernigan's LA Journey. we also saw jeremy piven on the street, and deduced that he must be in town filming entourage.

but hey, new york, i miss you much. i'm coming home!

here, kitty kitty kitty

i started moving some things into the new apartment this weekend... and then mikers and i decided to adopt a cat. i mean our apartment has built-in kitty stairs leading up to our loft space. how can we not have a cat in an apartment like that? we went over to barc (brooklyn animal rescue coalition) and made some quick friends with two cats named chumley and jim schwartz. we decided to think it over and come back the next day. when we came back we met another cat named ingot, who was just too adorable to pass up. as soon as we opened the cage, ingot was all over us with affection, purring purring purring. he totally won us over, we were putty in his hands. we took him home with us and he's just been super adorable the entire time. we just can't believe our luck. but we're having trouble renaming him because we don't think he looks like an "ingot." here's a photo. perhaps you can come up with some suggestions!

i've been spinning her sea green, sea blue ep like crazy. sigh. go to her show, be mesmerized and buy the ep. you won't regret it.

he's a singer-songwriter recently moved to nyc from canada, celebrating the release of his cd. he's super sweet. go there and be charmed. buy his cd!


friday, april 14 - knife skills, no things @ union pool





todd p presents another excellent night with knife skills (5rc/kill rock stars) and no things (x Liars). the last show these two bands played together was a sold-out event so get there earlyish... be there to celebrate the end of their spring tour!

i was flipping through jane magazine this past weekend and i saw two girls who are top of the pops -- sara glick and audrey levy (better known as ms melody nelson).

le one nightstand one year anniversary



audrey has accomplished so much in the few years i've known her. her awesomeness abounds further tomorrow night for the one year anniversary of frenchie party le one nightstand. girls, put on your red lipstick and pout. boys, get ready to drool. audrey is going to sing with one of the bands performing in the serge gainsbourg tribute!

sara glick, you look lovely and amazing in that jane 30 under 30 photo. will you do my makeup and make me loads more brownies? ladies, sara does make-up for hot rockers like kim gordon, cat power and liz phair. she quit her job a while ago and just decided to go for it and do make up. how inspiring is that? a girl can dream.

i'm feeling better today

i love that first feeling in the morning when you think it's a weekend. you think you don't have to get up this morning...yet. then suddenly your alarm wakes you up for real, and the reality is that you actually do have to get up and go to work because hey, it's only wednesday. hump day. gosh darnit.

i've been so busy i haven't had time to pause at all. but this busy body has also been secretly thrilled at finding her own apartment and starting a new chapter in the book of jinners. ok i'm going to stop talking in the third person now. i found an apartment, peeps! with mikers! and it's got a wonderful backyard, perfect for summertime bbqs. this is the first time i've had a backyard in new york, although i've enjoyed outdoor parties in other people's backyards and rooftops. now i have one to call my own. yay!

i won't lie though. the place is small. "cozy." but it has so much potential and i love to think that i will take it and vamp it up. make it our home. sigh.

april showers bring may madness

i am so tired. i have been going from meeting to meeting, floating in a detached abyss. my limbs feel limp. my brain feels flat. my spine is aching. the sudden, cold gray weather is draining. ugh!
