This is my new favorite Cheeseburger song called "Roll Like That." Here's some footage from the Vice/Colt 45 party on Saturday night at Glasslands... That was one of the funnest Cheeseburger shows ever!

American Teen (Documentary)

I went to see American Teen the other night, and really enjoyed it. I laughed a lot at how awkward and insecure we are as teens. It brought me back to those nightmarish days. So glad I never have to go back there again!

So Hannah Bailey, the rebellious cool outsider aspiring filmmaker is in New York now? Perhaps one day I will bump into her.

I loved Film School at Spaceland. They played the Club NME/Indie 103.1 party out here. Badass hazy pretty.

The Ting Tings @ El Rey

Didn't like them that much, but then again, they're not really my thing. I think we left after the fourth song or so. It was nice to check out the El Rey though. The first venue I've been to that actually has lines on the floor to clear side aisles.

New Cheesy Guilty Pleasure Of Mine: Meiko

I rarely like things that show up in my inbox, but for some reason I clicked through when I got an email about this singer-songwriter Meiko. Maybe because she was LA-based, and I happen to be in LA at the moment. You know what they say about "when in Rome..."

Anyhoo, for some reason I also liked it, and I sort of feel like a teenager for saying it. Perhaps I'm having my mid-life crisis? I don't know. I do feel like I'm going through a second adolescence. I think there is something to Meiko's music, even if its sound is super mainstream. I guess what I am saying is that I like it, but I can't seem to pinpoint why!?!

Here are her tour dates with Joe Purdy... why no New York dates?

Ting Tings @ the El Rey Tonight

I'm going to the El Rey tonight in Los Angeles to check out a UK band called the Ting Tings. They are supposed to make me dance my ass off. We shall see! The show is sold out, so it should be extra hot and sweaty.

I Love LA

So I'm in LA for a week. I'm going to be attending the Cheeseburger show here on Monday. The boys get here tomorrow night. Then it's PARTY TIME!

Yesterday Katy and I went to the American Apparel vintage store in LA (apparently there is also one in NY, who the eff knew?!?) and had ourselves a dress-up party. The girl at the store was super cool and had a sexy, nerdy librarian aesthetic. She also played all Unrest music, which made Katy and I very happy.

Side note: Everyone in LA thinks my tattoo is of me (I've had two people ask me already if it is me). UM, no. Ahem, so let me explain here... It's actually more of a symbolic tattoo of a crying Japanese girl from Adrian Tomine's comic book, Optic Nerve #11. I think the reason that the image speaks to me so much is probably partly because she sort of resembles me but also because in general, my life has held a lot of sadness like the girl in the comic book. She goes to New York to re-discover herself, and that reminds me that one can overcome his or her fears and troubles if he or she looks inward and live outward.

Anyhoo, the girl at the store talked to me about comic books, and I ended up buying this red and white vintage dress with wicked slate gray tights. I only wish I had remembered to bring my heels or my grey and white "fingerprint" Converse. Maybe I'll find a cool pair in the next couple days to rock at King King on Monday.

I have also reconnected with Katy's cute cats - Prudie and Rah. I missed those cozy little buggers so much but it seems that LA is doing them well. They have really come out of their shell. Prudie no longer hides behind the fridge or the dresser. She is out on the couch, purring away like a good little kitten. Rah Rah is just as cute, but looks like that creature in Star Wars that I can't remember the name of. LOVES IT.

Yesterday I ate a pot brownie from the medical marijuana store and the high lasted for a long time. Whoa.

Tonight, we are going to see this British band called Friendly Fires. Katy swears they are hot and danceable, so we are going with our party dresses on and dancing our asses off. If you are going too, please dance with us! They aren't particularly my kind of music (though sometimes I swear they sound like !!!, which is my kind of music), but when I'm in the dancing mood, all I need is a good beat and a few drinks under my belt. Come on, buy us a drink or two. We'll bring the night to eleven.
