french kicked in the face! |
01.23.03 -- ok so it's around 7 at nite and i still haven't posted my list. i know that's lame, but i had so much fucking work during the day! on the work front, i interviewed a donna (donna r. a.k.a. allison robertson). she talked a lot, but i think that's just 'cause she gets nervous so she blabs everything that comes to mind. my personal opinion on the band is that their new album is not that good. sorry, allison! i thought you were totally cool to chat with, but... i hear the french kicks aren't gonna do any shows in ny till march. bummer. though they are performing on carson daly next wednesday. too bad i can't go to that, it's during work hours! i'm going to see onairlibrary at galapogos tonight. i'm also going to this art gallery opening in billyburg. maybe i'll see yous there... and i'll post my top tens when i get back from the social circuit. ttfn. --------------------------------------------------------- i think today i will post my official top 10 of 2002 list. it's late, but someone requested a list from me. so goddamnit, i'll produce a list. it might be blank until about mid-afternoon, but don't worry, i'll fill it out lika final exam! [look at 01.24.03 entry for lists] |

johnny marr is hotness.
yeah yeah yeah, nick at nite. |
01.22.03 -- peeps, you are going to be so sad to hear this: i got to work this morning to find a message on my voicemail from johnny marr's publicist, asking me if i wanted to grab drinks with them and maybe a bite to eat afterwards last night before the bowery show! unfortunately, because i took off of work yesterday, i didn't get the message until this morning -- when it was too late! ahhh!! how fucked up is that? and i called her to see if it was for real, and it was. when she called, johnny marr + the healers were just about to play letterman. how cool! wow, johnny marr is so hot. he can sing and chew gum at the same time. [side note: when asked what kind of gum he chews, he said airwaves gum.] he makes rock and roll seem so effortless, and when assholes in the crowd yell, some girls are bigger than others, he'll throw back, i never really knew what to say to that either! why are a majority of his fans total fuckasses? we found ourselves saying that all night. from the guys behind us who would talk loudly in spanish, saying things like, this song is so great because it has no bass and no piano and blah blah blah. one of said guys even asked me if i liked the smiths -- wtf? i was like, what do you think, asshole? and then he asked me if i liked the show, and i was like, yeah except for the part where you're talking. and he still continued to talk to me. shuddup! and the college gals who showed up for the show were so lame. they couldn't sway to the music on the beat, and they said things like, let's go johhny and that was awesome, dude! get over yourselves, gals. you're not that cool. why can't people just enjoy the music quietly? i don't think johnny was very amused because when the girls reached out for his hand at the end of the show, he kind of just looked at them while he was taking off his guitar and then left the stage. i don't think he's a touchy-feely sorta guy anyway. anyhoo, we also saw nick zinner of yeah yeah yeahs fame.
i recognized the hair immediately. he's a shorty, but a hottie nonetheless.
i can see how he'd be influenced by the marr. he has the same cool,
collected stage presence. rock on! |

turn on the bright lights, carson daly. the walkmen, shrouded in german mystique...ist bizarro. seth green loves alloy. |
01.21.03 -- interpol sang "obstacle 1" and "nyc" on the carson daly show. mommy and daddy dengler were by the stage. during "obstacle 1" the guitarist daniel kessler's string went out of tune, and they had to play the song again. jco and i agreed, carlos' hair is even shinier in person! but carson still looks like a fuckass. boring boring boring. video for "pda" is cool. lead singer paul banks looks like andy warhol. wonder if an nyu alum cranked that shit. wow, jco, this picture of the walkmen is so weird, almost scary. why do they look so fucking dramatic? where is the cuteness? and strangely enough our my fave walkmen peter bauer looks a lot like peter sellers in this picture. ever wonder what felicity is up to these days? we don't know either, but we saw her on the subway today in a short mink coat. how luxurious! she bumped into someone on the way out -- how felicity! for fans of jco's writing (and there are many), please check out the kurt cobain story she has posted on her site and give her some feedback. she wrote this story a while ago, but since kurt is everywhere now, she felt it appropriate to resurrect the short story for everyone's reading pleasure. rachel, thanks for sending me the link to this buffy screen grab! how absolutely bizarre is it that he's wearing an alloy shirt? did the company have some kind of deal going on with buffy at the time? quite possible. i'll have to get back to you on that. (side note: when are people gonna start wearing "on the moon" shirts?) [post] btw, why is last call with carson daly still on the air? and does anyone care about the top picks of 2002 on his site? how come britney spears, christina, and kylie aren't on his list? who the hell is bt? are they referring to tha music mixologist? you know who was on this list: the strokes -- as best concert of the year. here's the review: Best Concert -- The Strokes, 8/29/02, Milk Studios,
NYC how stupid is it that this was NOT a concert, it was a private party thrown by the fader magazine to promote its bands? and how lame is it that carson daly or "bt" was at this party? i bet gideon was there, too! [post] tired discussion of the day: the walkmen sell out? or the walkmen sell out? french
kicks quote of the day from an old boston's weekly dig interview: so... what does that mean for the walkmen? and are we
going to see a "close to modern" car commercial any time soon?
i know i keep asking but i'm insanely curious. [post] |

fashion loves whatever it takes. |
01.20.03 -- very disappointed with joe millionaire tonight. what up with cutting allison? we need to get rid of blondes sarah and mojo already. in the end, we think he should end up wtih zora, though allison would have been a strong second. we're already sick of melissa m. and her fake enthusiasm and pouty jealousy. get a life! speaking of reality shows, who the hell is excited about american idol 2 tomorrow? oooh, i can't wait! we'll miss brian dunkelman. in other news, we finally have the mink lungs photo gallery up! yippee! check it out and feel the fury that is mink. heard the walkmen in urban outfitters today. don't know how i feel about that. it felt sort of wrong... but who am i to tell urban what to play and what not to play? right? i've been having lots of vivid high school flashbacks lately (i blame it all on that damn high school reunion reality show). anyhoo, look at the link someone sent me the other day: play mash! apparently, i'm going to marry dennis realistic, live in a mansion in florence, drive a pink vw bug, have four kids and work as a band manager. almost a dream come true. jason took some great pics of the liars and the yyys when they passed through the pitts last year. i would have paid to be at that show -- it must have been like having both bands all to yourselves! going to see interpol at last call with carson daly. yippee? in happy news, jco's stellastarr* interview is FINALLY up on prefix mag. go jco! |

the swap meet begins. |
01.19.03 -- at the first monthly clothes swap at casa la anna, i scored a royal purple scarf and a p bag (go figure i answered the fame trivia correctly.) nice nice nice. anyhoo, there were lots of girls, lots of food, and lots of clothes. how fun! i'll upload pics and video from the swap sometime soon. tonight planning to go to the bar stephen works at -- the stinger. i feel kind of tired tho, so i dunno. maybe i need a nap to fight old man winter. i hear cornmo is playing pianos tonight at the david cross thing. that place is supposed to be a madhouse, and i think i'll avoid it! what else is there to say? you can check out my new pics from the mink lungs show last night. whoever the opening bands were... they weren't very good. but the lungs were a breath of fresh air, pardon the pun. miss frosty was swell, and jack black's double was rowdy. but as jco noted earlier, the lungs rely less on theatrics now -- though they did give a bunch of sparklers out, and for the rest of their set, it smelled like a burning building. less theatrics means better music. so good! will post pics soon. did i mention we're going to see johnny marr on tuesday? i got his cd from the publicist (it's not due out till next month), and it's rockin'! i remember when i saw him at the haven show during cmj. it was magical when he got on stage with them and performed. i thought he was hot. what a legend. so what else is there to say today? i pretty much did nothing but the clothes swap. last night i was lame and went home after the lungs. maybe i'm becoming like a housewife or something. how awful. need to force myself into party sitches, and get down with my badself. if i ever said that in public, i'd probably be embarrassed. whatever, dude. i'll try to look for more quizzes to amuse you guys, but i'm working on my indie rock girlfriend quiz right now. oh that reminds me, did anyone see that i put the walkmen on alloy.com? how fucking hilarious is that? |
