go angelina on your lips.

estee lauder's idealist skin is my fave facial skin lotion. does that make the rest of an idealist?

yikes look what anna just sent me via darci:

02.15.03 -- ok, enough of the mushy stuff. time to move on to more music news. pat on the back for longwave -- mtv2 hearts them. from their pubbies:
What's up?

I'll tell you what's up -- the new Longwave web site:
www.longwavetheband.com.

Starting next week, you'll be able to pre-order the Longwave album, "The Strangest Things" from the site. If you order from the site you'll receive some bonus prizes -- more information next week.

Some other news: Longwave was just recently named in Alternative Press as the 100 bands you need to know. MTV You Heard It First interview took place last week and should be running very soon. MTV2 will be playing the video for Everywhere You Turn in the next couple of weeks.

Also we're pleased to announce the CMJ -- MTV2 Advance Warning tour. Longwave will join the Raveonettes, Mooney Suzuki, White Light Motorcade on this tour of mostly college campuses. Go to www.longwavetheband.com to see all dates. The tour starts March 13 in Austin, Texas and ends in April in Los Angeles. After this tour the band will play dates back to the East Coast.

Finally thanks to everyone who attend the Donnas and OK Go dates. Both bands have asked Longwave to tour with them again.

ooh, i just experienced something weird. i was watching mtv's made (the one about the nerd who wanted to be a bull rider), and i heard the beginning chords of the walkmen's "wake up". how weird! then i heard the french kicks' "close to modern". is made really just a commercial for startime artists?

miker gave me startime's new compilation, super cuts! the rad cd includes hot tracks from the high strung, pas/cal, the witnesses, fiery furnaces, the capitol years, the joggers (the latest band to join the startime family), the realistics, etc!

drunken, late-night karaoke to "wake up" by the walkmen. can ya dig it?

02.14.03 -- oooh, valentine's day. happy valentine's day, k! big up to bk! i'm going to be passing out conversation hearts all day. woo hoo!

on another high note, my new tony & tina lipgloss is effin' bright. but it was free, so i'll wear it loud and proud. check it

i was reading the editor's letter in the latest spin mag (the one with dashboard confessional on the cover), and it really made me mad that they're all like, we're so proud to see a band like the strokes get so successful, so we've decided to come up with a list of artists we think are gonna be successful this year. whatever! their list is completely retarded, too. it's like we know that most of these people (with the exception of 50 Cent, who broke a billboard record this past week) are never gonna get close to strokedom. and since when was spin really in touch with anything indie? i mean, now they have articles all over the place on what cds you should have if you're into indie rock... but it's the same boring stuff everyone knows to have. why not come up with a more interesting list, like bands that people say are indie but are just annoying. or top 50 overrated bands. or top 10 artists most likely to do a levis ad this year. c'mon people, get with it. stop being such pr rags. nobody over in the states cares about ms. dynamite.

a couple fun valentine's day links. be notty!:
i heart you
freaky deaky
lesbian kisses are cool
we dig the new nada surf! sort of wayne coyney, it shimmers
ny times hearts nada surf. and nada surf live in billsburg:
"It felt more like a first record again," said Matthew Caws, the group's guitarist and singer, who was sitting in his small apartment in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. "There was a lot of time, and we had to do it by ourselves."
and he works at earwax or worked...:
When the money from "Popular" stopped coming in, Mr. Caws got a part-time job at Earwax, a record store a few blocks from his apartment. Mr. Lorca, 35, went back to his old job as a Web designer. Mr. Elliot, 39, did session work with bands around New York. The group got together occasionally, recording covers of songs by the Pixies and Iggy Pop for tribute compilations. And it played a fictional rock group in the movie "Roommates," which was written and directed by Paulina Porizkova, the former model whose husband, Ric Ocasek, produced "High/Low."

Supergrass
Gaz Coombes: Our Valentine's song is "Miss You" by the Rolling Stones. It's quite nice, but it's a bit cheesy. It's not really our song because of the content, it's because we always played it in my girlfriend's bedroom when we first got it together!
Mickey Quinn: Ours is "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin. I don't why. My girlfriend just said, "That's our song," and I said, "Okay."

i want this raveonette hair! like now! does that make me some sort of twinkie?

for sigur ros fans, there's a dvd coming out. check it.

after we bought tix to walkmen and realistics show, jco, rachel, and i went to eat at boca chica, mexican restaurant. i forgot how good sangria is. yummmm.

02.13.03 -- saw daredevil last night, and it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. first off, jennifer garner kicked some serious ass. but there was not a drop of greek in her, which is disappointing -- she could have gotten into character more -- perhaps taken some inspiration from colin farrell, who completely fell into his "bullseye" irish rogue (or maybe he really is that psycho). ben affleck wasn't annoying until he actually spoke or tried to act. i think i enjoyed the actor who played him as a child more than big ben, but it was an OK effort on his part. keith saw the movie with me, and he's posting his review of the movie on his site, ontheshelves.com. he'll give you all the inside jokes, and believe me, there were plenty.

ok, moving on... check out this pic of purdy fab and drew at a victoria secret's party!

we're not sure how we feel about the disco-rama on nme.com... donkey show, anyone?

derek, i think you should give me your unicorn tee shirt for free. c'mon!

davy's sister lucy woodward is gonna be performing at the bitter end. check the deets:
Hey!
I'm singing the New York's Bitter End Songwriter's Circle this monday, Febuary 17th with:
Me, Lucy Woodward (myself and I)
Gared Lee
Anna Johnson
Karen Jacobson
Casey
We all take turns singing, you know the deal, but these guys are real good so come, damnit. 8 pm but I'd come a little early (7:30 maybe, have a drink) because it fills up and I don't wanna see all y'all's faces outside pressed up against the window with a glass up to your ear...

we are pleased...thus far!

I am working with Matt on getting a site for the lyrics but we haven't worked it all out yet. I saw the show on Carson and they were really terrific. Also, Hugh is a really great guy, so everybody be nice to the new guy he is a little nervous. He has known the kicks for quite some time and has just been added since the Carson show. I have a request from the people on the board. I talked it over with the guys and we would like to have all people e-mail Conan and see if we can get the Kicks on his show. You know that Conan rocks and also, it is someone that possibly Nick will be able to look straight in the face since they are both tall you know? Thanks all.

MORE WALKMEN PICS ON affordable justice. CHECK IT! His other site has more pics: Realistic Records. Also, Derek is this you?

02.12.03 -- i'm really digging this san francisco band the pleased. i've only heard their one song "another disaster", so i will have to investigate further... find out if they have any local shows coming up... i know they've toured with the vines, the walkmen, and the french kicks.

also check out ontheshelves.com for the ultimate information in toys! (this is a plug for my bf's new site, we all know how toy-obsessed he is!)

i want a french kicks unicorn tee and their new birdie tote. i heart french kicks!

Oh boy, and you thought emo was bad. here's a press release from ArtistDirect:
SCREAMO -- the NEXT BIG THING in music? The UK's music authority, NME, coined the term SCREAMO to identify a new crop of bands who fans and the music business in general feel will become the hot new sound for 2003. The NME has singled out THE BLOOD BROTHERS dubbing them "the leading lights" of this emerging-from-the-underground scene. SCREAMO is an aggressive, intense, fast, and heavy sound, but balanced by philosophic, emotional, and meaningful lyrics. Other SCREAMO bands include The Used, Poison the Well, Thrice, Finch and Glassjaw. Ross Robinson, Glassjaw's producer, found The Blood Brothers in Seattle, and produced their major label debut, "Burn Piano Island, Burn," which will be released March 18, 2003...

they are super duper!

photo: fliptoptrunkshow.com

who's your socialite? we've been *reading* laura from the modern age go on and on about this tee... and we want it to stop. fiona spotted this tee many moons ago. check it! and then, get over it!

02.11.03 -- joe millionaire sucked, but supergrass is great. check out the photo gallery!

here's the photo gallery for the fiery furnaces show. brother and sister furnace's tension was thick throughout their performance. sister furnace forgot the words on their last song, and she jokingly (?) added a verse: "and this is where the brother kills the sister", while brother furnace left the stage without a word. yikes. she had a good voice tho, and he looked like a brunette nikolai (of the strokes). drummer didn't seem to fit the "hipster" vibe, not that it mattered much.

i left crashin' in before dj startime (also known as isaac green) went on. the scene was creamin' with indie rock and newsboy caps. next time, i'll come with ammunition.

where are all the photo galleries, you ask? good question:
onairlibrary gallery
johnny marr gallery
turing machine gallery

bobby gillespie tee on apc! wtf!

fiona's launchcast station. tune in today!

fashion week starts today -- busy, busy, busy! how will we keep on top of things?

photo: about.com

they should definitely add "crack is wack" and "plastic surgery wasn't invented for michael jackson".

check out my launchcast station. let's call it rock it to the moon. ;-)

02.10.03 -- ok, kiddos, it's been a while, but i'll be back today with more stuff about what's going on in my life. i've got plenty of stuff to talk about! coming up: supergrass, fiery furnaces, jason lowenstein, dj startime, the joggers, and more! stay tuned!

tonight i'll put up photo galleries for the above-mentioned bands. i've been busy lately which shouldn't surprise ya. but i'm looking forward to joe millionaire tonight. hopefully that will relieve some stress. we went to pianos to eat yesterday after the supergrass show (which rocked). when we got there, tinkle was over. but at some point in the evening david cross walked out the door. of course, i missed him. while they were walking out, some people said to us: "it was nice meeting you!" the strange part: we never met them. could it have been another margaret cho mistaken identity? that sounds vain, but it only occurred to me this morning.

oh my gosh, peter walkmen writes me back. i hope he didn't see my pete townshend caption:

Dear Jin-
Thanks for writing. Sorry it took so long to reply. We were touring out west. I got Alley of OnAirLibrary in the new quiz. Also, our friend Derek showed us your site and it looks great. Anyway, thanks again. Your quizzes are a lot of fun.

Wow, is Mike Realistic spinning solo on Valentine's Day? Awwww. Someone should go pick him up:
Mike Realistics will be doing the DJ thing on Valentine's Day over at the BQE Lounge in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. BQE is located at 300 N. 6 @ Meeker. They'll be happy hour from 1-2 am and free admission.

Meet the new French Kick, Hugh! Article by jco.

photo: thewalkmen.com

hey, fuckface, don't call me pete townshend ever again. ever.

02.4.03 -- what is there to do when you're just sitting around on your butt watching american idol? uh.... well you can pretend to write silly captions for photos on the walkmen site.

ok i'm gonna go and spend some time working on putting together some shows. wish me luck!

How To Get Over My Band Obsession:
1) Get one of the members of the band to offend me in some unforgivable way. Like, don't you hate it when a guy asks you about your gorgeous best friend?
2) Every time I hear the band's music, I can zap myself with a taser to the beat of their drum until I have negative associations. It worked for Pavlov, it can work for me, damnit!
3) Just get over my shyness and make out with the keyboardist already…
4) Go all out and make out with all of the band members.
5) Stop being such a drug addict and snap out of my star fucker phase. Besides, guys rarely look as sexy when you're sober. Am I right, ladies?
6) Pretend they're all 12 years old. Jailbait is so passé. Pass it on!
7) Take some scissors to their next show and cut off all their irresistibly dirty indie rock hair. Remember, Samson and Delilah?
8) Give the rock star the worst pick up line ever and run away in horror, never to go near him again. Just like the time I ran into Steve Malkmus in a library… "Er, I, like, really like your music…Der…"
9) Keep telling myself they all look like Keith Richards naked (or at least, they will sooner or later).
10) Meet another band to obsess over. Ooooh, shit!

brooklyn's new power couple, as deemed by jin, their adoring fan...
i want to send hugs and kisses to power couple of the month, anna and deron, for helping me promote and stuff. i love you, babies! there's your daily affirmation!

02.3.03 -- welcome, hugh. the new french kick!

oooh, shout out from derek. will have to try that hotel phone microwave trick. genius.

going to try to see turing machine at 10 at luxx. hopefully it will be fun! will keep you posted...

here's the update: turns out everyone and their mother was at luxx last night. i think the bottom line was that it was a free show. and also turing machine is fucking good. but i met up with anna and deron. then i saw steven and his roommate. then i saw dan and mike from oxford collapse. then i saw jco's friend david a. then we ran into claudia from onairlibrary.

then some guy approached me and asked if i knew the owners of the club. i said no. then he said he saw me at dusk the other night. i never thought i was that recognizable that someone would remember me from four night ago. weird! and then there were a gaggle of girls dancing to funk music, all emotional and shit. word em up, y'all!

anyhoo, we left shortly after the last band spirit world (they were as anna said, a bad version of the black crowes.) and went to bqe lounge where ropstyle of semiautomatic was spinning. (see pic below.)

photo: rachel lovinger

this is me looking like an idiot next to kimya after their cmj show in october (and yes, i'm holding ricola). she's so cool! rachel, i want my pictures with steven!

02.2.03 -- fuck, the groundhog saw his damn shadow! puxatawny phil sucketh. arghhh.

this is a great blog to read for walkmen fans right now -- affordable justice -- by derek. he is currently the walkmen's west coast "tour manager". so to hear tales from the west coast road, tune into his blog! the latest entry:

last night back at the hotel there was a bassist vs. bassist rumble. pete from the walkmen took on dustin from the hot hot heat in a greco-roman throwdown and barely lost. this was after he defeated their drummer, paul, in a depressingly short push up contest. both bands are fighting for the honor and perceived supremacy of their home countries (HHH are canadians) and while the score is tied right now i am sure that the usa will prevail. all this went down after we microwaved a telephone.

is it just me or does this sounds like a walkmen video?

derek, are you coming over to the east coast any time? if you do, let me know! sounds like you know how to party.

i heard that adam might join the moldy peaches side projects show i'm putting together, which may mean the show is gonna be longer and start earlier. yikes. gotta work out the times and stuff!! but if he's there, there will be a bigger draw! i'm so excited about this. i also found out last night that babs knows the owners of north six and warsaw, which might be great venues for bigger shows! on the moon presents is all set for takeoff! almost. i think i'm going to start coming up with a bunch of text for my section of the star time site...
