i'm ova heeeeer.

03.01.03 -- i had a dream last night that i was at a show for the yeah yeah yeahs and they started to play. then nick zinner came in late for the lineup, apologizing, even though we all knew he was detained by a bunch of girls. very strange dream. and angus from the liars were there, of course, supporting karen. whatever.

speaking of the liars, i haven't seen them in a long time, and i wonder if they're tag-alongs right now to the yeah yeah yeah tour overseas... i think they should come back to the states and play more effin' shows here!

whatever, happened to my gay boyfriend? mikey, where are you? i will need to have a gathering soon, and maybe we'll drink and sing karaoke.

anna and i made changes to the on the moon music site, so you should check it.

also, anna's show headliner, the seconds, can't play on friday -- so oxford collapse is gonna headline instead. come to the show and rock out!

all the sneaky things that we do in the dark...

02.28.03 -- it's friday! well, we all knew that, right? bishop allen were adorable last night. really really adorable. why does their music make me smile so? a couple coronas and i was high flying for the night. palomar was good also, i liked that they were driven by three girls and a guy drummer. don't know too many bands like that. bumped into max from the natural history who said he was there to see palomar and the capitol years. i left just after palomar to go work on the nh site, but ran into some more technical glitches. grrrr...

anyhoo, word from rachel, who went to see adam green at mercury lounge, is that a-dawg mentioned the Peach Pit show during his show. rachel said we should have been there handing out fliers, which may have been true... where art steven with his band name? we might resort to calling his band Ex-Minotaur (the name his band played under during the union pool show). adam is playing galopagos on march 3, so we should be there handing out fliers, but we probably won't. maybe we'll leave fliers for it by the door. it's anna's bday for chrissakes! we're gonna be celebrating. woo woo!

back to bishop allen. how cute are they? talked to christian and justin for a little bit, though for some reason i'm intimidated by the girl members -- though they're all really sweet people. i hear they're working on a double-disc album... yowza! too bad they only got to play a 30 minute set. it was quite amazing actually that even though metric mile was late for their slot, the bands finished quickly, and weren't acting too diva-ish.

things are what you make of them, folks, and bishop allen are on their way to lotsa good stuff. we likey them much...

02.27.03 -- big up to bishop allen! everyone should go check them out tonight at luxx. eff the snow!

went to see trachtenberg family slideshow players, and they were funny. very much a novelty act, but it was fun... i don't think it's the kind of thing i would go to watch over and over again, but i'm glad i saw it once.

after the show, barbara introduced me to the owner of north six -- he was nice. she also knew the club booker bob, aka foxy.

and i also found giancarlo of the mink lungs at the bar, tending! it's really cool because i've been trying to get in touch with his band for the last week, and then there he was like it was fate. anna and i talked to him for a while, and he was really sweet. i told him i liked his band a lot, and he said that it made him feel good to hear it cause he was having a bad day. awww. he also gave me a copy of his solo project called the glove compartment, and he claims peeps can find it around town like in other music... he also told me the lungs are finishing up their next album, slated for a june release. i'm hoping to lock them in for a show in april... i already have bishop allen signed on for the show... woo hoo!

side note: i didn't know christian rudder of bishop allen was a big contributor of thespark.com back in the site's heyday. i remember when we used to post people's purity test results on the board at the newspaper. i think i was pretty pure, if i remember correctly. ;-) anyhoo, christian's partner on thespark.com, chris coyne (i guess they're all harvard geniuses, eh?) also created a great website called jeezit.com. check it out...

max from the natural history stopped by my job (ugh, how embarrassing... or whatever) and dropped off his band's new cd. i think it's pretty good. has the mp3 that's featured on the startime site. their sound is very elvis costello-y, but there's a different spirit behind it -- a very nyc spirit behind the songs.

awww, isn't she just a sweetie pie? awww, awww, awww, awwww...

02.25.03 -- is it really only tuesday? sounds cliche, but i feel like it's already hump day. i guess freud would call it a wish fulfillment dream. **sigh** i am actually looking forward to trachtenberg family tonight. i mean, they've gotten so much hype and all, even if they do seem like they exploit their daughter, who cares? maybe they are just educating her. or whatever.

the above picture is art by jackie gendel, but was not part of the exhibit, i'm going to talk about. i just saw the art when i googled "jackie gendel"...

went to see a jackie gendel (ex Team USA member) exhibit on friday at the Jessica Murray Projects gallery. She had five pieces displayed -- all oil and wax on panels. i think my favorite one was the one titled "blizzard of '03". it had a behind-view of a couple sitting on a couch watching tv. that's what i picture a nice relaxing weekend being! jackie said that it took her about three weeks to finish that piece.

other artists featured were chris doyle, who had these amazing (and huge) watercolor pieces, and brady dollarhide, who had acrylic paintings. exhibit will be featured till march 30, so if you get a chance, go check it out!

02.24.03 -- so what's up with me lately? i've started to help update sites for startime records, starting with brendon benson's site. plus, today i got an e-mail from max from the natural history, and i may start helping them make regular updates on their site. as far as life in general, i'm looking forward to having a week off in march. in fact, i'm counting the hours. minutes even.

even though blur joined the coachella lineup, i decided not to go. though ticket prices to the two day extravaganza aren't bad, the lineup isn't that compelling, and i'm not the type to be easily swayed.

sorry for not updating my site for the past few days. i've been super busy -- and the weather has been sucky to say the least. had dinner with keith's mom and her bf on sunday, and we spent most of the weekend cleaning the house. now it's so nice and cozy! hopefully it will stay that way for a while...

finally went out and bought the postal service cd, give up. it's pretty good, but not mind blowing. it's not going to start a revolution, but it's nice to listen to... don't take that as a back-handed compliment because that's not how i mean it! they kind of remind me of belle & sebastian meets new order.... overall, i liked it... do you agree? let me know, and post your response!

so i think i'm going to see the trachtenberg family slideshow players at north six tomorrow. i never thought i would go see them but babs wants to go, and i wanna see her, so i'll go as a compromise. i can't believe this family got a write up in Entertainment Weekly. when was that mag ever that hip? speaking of hip, scott brown also write about the hipster handbook in EW -- he met with the book's writer and had him dress him up as a "hipster". now scott is a hilarious writer, and wrote a funny account of his night on the town as a hipster... pick up the mag and see for yourself!
