sounds like it's going to be a wild birthday weekend. i'll be celebrating with my boo for his d.o.b., and darci of kittenpants will be throwing a party at luxx for her bday, too. if you don't know who corn mo is, you've probably been sitting under a rock. he's been in rolling stone and on the cover of new york press -- i think that's pretty impressive. he's also opened up for david cross at tinkle, cross showering corn mo with mucho praises. you should definitely come check him out and wish darci a very very happy birthday.

happy birthday, keith!

happy birthday, darci!

xoxo,

oh i almost forgot to mention that i went to piano's last night to see a band called zetamale, from virginia. katy, a virginian herself, is friends with their publicist. they reminded me a lot of radiohead. the lead singer had a very thom yorke-ian presence on stage and a voice to match. i think there were like five members in the band including a keyboardist, so their sound was very full and filled that tiny space we call piano's. it was the first time i had seen a show there, and i just can't imagine a real rock show there. i would fucking suffocate. it was as small as the space, and it kept getting stuffy. i could however imagine a bunch of naked people rocking out. sweaty. as i was at piano's, i realized that stellastarr* was also playing that night. i had totally forgotten about that. i couldn't stay for their set, but i'm sure it was spectacular, though i think most of their fans (except for moi) are in indio, california, prepping up for coachella, cuz it wasn't too crowded and cops were circling the club for some reason or another. i am not too sad about skipping coachella this year. it sounds like a bummer of a lineup compared to last year. who wants to spend $1,000 on that lineup? not i...

hello, thoroughbred
fare thee well, right bank

photo: jinners

the lovely ladies of thoroughbred rocked out at the right bank last night. how weird that the right bank was all, like, closed up and shit. many are sad to see it go, though i have to say it had a shitty sound system, but it was nice to lounge around by the water and see the cityscape. with a few technical difficulties, the thoroughbred fillies set the pace for the rest of the night, which i didn't stick around for. the tall boy girl kept screaming random things like "where's the drummer's mic?" i realized that i've seen her around! she was at the moldy peaches show i put together at luxx, and she was also at, duh, the show last week with the panthers. i also see steven's roommate around everywhere. she's cool like that. and yes, she was there last night. but where, oh, where is steven? still throwing around band names, i'm sure! ok i feel a little burnt out. jinners needs a nap, for sure. so i'll let the pictures speak for themselves. check out the photo gallery.

finite shite stripes?

like my meg white pigtails?

like my new panthers tee?

ok, before you all cuss me out, i want to say, just kidding! i don't think they're shite. definitely not shite. but jack definitely thinks it's finite.

quote from jack white:
"Oh, [a long life for the white stripes] probably won't happen.
I'd rather have it be a finite thing and when we feel that we're
not relevant to ourselves anymore, then we just...stop. It'd be a
lot healthier, I think, instead of beating a dead horse or doing
it just for the money, or becoming caricatures of ourselves
years from now. There's just something so of-the-moment
about the band -- there are so many limitations to the White
Stripes that it has a finite aura to it. But that's okay. We've
been very lucky." [cmj new music monthly]

now i see my misery and she's never ever coming back
photo: jinners

went to see bishop allen at starfoods. we thought it was just a regular show or whatever, but it turned out that they were playing for some birthday party of some girl that justin (of bishop allen) works with or something like that. sounds like mass confusion to me.

rachel and katy noted that everyone from the "birthday party" looked like they were from hellay -- as in super-accessorized with lots of frills and bright colors. what was even weirder about this birthday party was that nobody was really partying. so during bishop allen's set, i started dancing with rachel, and we tried to get the party started! but alas, only two other girls danced. however, justin did beckon me over to dance with him and we got into the groove. check out the photo gallery from the show. please excuse tha red eye. i'm still an idiot with my camera.

so...what's up with that lame-ay hellay partay?!? i think the fact that the star spangles were playing might have had an effect. i mean, the difference between bishop allen and the star spangles is intense. and i think everyone in the room was too glam (not too hip, mind you) to dance or show any sign of fun. like, whatta bummer, dude. anyhoo, note the new addition to bishop allen, jack who adds lots of fun to the already happy mix. and if you don't know already, these talented peeps will be playing at the folksongs for the afterlife cd release party at luxx on may 21. i would love it if you all came to support my booking project on the moon music. the more people, the more fun!

so is it just me or are people deviating from the traditional rock venues these days? panthers play kingsland tavern, a bar where a plate of cold cuts (or was it kielbasa?) is not an uncommon sight, and bishop allen play starfoods, a lower east side restaurant that fancies offbeat drinks and meaty french comfort food. next thing you know they'll be throwing shows at le cirque and gotham just to draw the biznass, and the regulars will be wondering, "who the fuck invited all the hipsters?" kind of like how they were at kingsland tavern. kingsland tavern will also host your 16th birthday party and your first confirmation. oh jeezus!

yes, we're down

photo: jinners

yo, the stache... i don't even know what to say about that. but i like your collection of pins. and this guy really wants you to pleasure him, don't he? some crazy fucked up shite. good good cd release party, but where was the duct tape?

people we saw: david ahuja, that ron howard-esque ex-liar. that guy fitz who threw the show who throws the junkyard shows. adam from coup fourre. a bunch of dead baseball players and kingsland tavern regulars on the wall as caricatures. anna, the sexy, strip poker playing secretary. steven's roommate? i think all the regulars of the bar were like, "what kind of fucked up hipster shite is this?" it's ok, we were having fun. happy birthday to jay, who did indeed smoochie smooch that naked guy, and he grabbed the guy's jewels, if ya know what i mean. jay is known for not being shy when it comes to kissing guys, like his bandmate justin! when i talked to him, he told me he had this picture on his computer desktop and that it would soon go on the panthers' site. it's one of my faves, too! justin gave me a free cd and a hug. such nice guys, those panthers

new additions to the panthers set, i think: trumpet and sax and keyboard. wow. is everyone using keyboards now? i could barely hear the trump and sax, but thought they were a kooky addition to the panthers noize. BTW, PANTHERS ARE OPENING FOR PRIMAL SCREAM ON MONDAY AT IRVING PLAZA. PANTHERS AT 9 P.M. GET YOUR ROCKS OFF!

and oddly enough, i think the tall boys singer was more fucked up than jay. she had this wild look in her eyes and would keep propeling herself into the crowd like a wildebeast or something. why does everyone in their band wear stripes?

shout out to thoroughbred for finishing their recording today. woo hoo, girls! it's awwwwn. i'm so impressed with all of your rockin' songs. the girls also finished their first photo shoot with moi in record time. were we even out there for ten minutes? good stuff. can't wait to unveil the pix to the world.
