miss modern age and melody nelson are back from indio with fun stories and photos from coachella. the above picture is not a picture from coachella. it's just a fun photo to feature, as i have not gone to a show since the french kicks on monday... hope y'all had fun at the realistics -- if you went to support 'em at mercury lounge last night. i was at home dyeing my locks and zoning out to the boob tube. had to rev up for the insane night ahead of me tonight. i'm skerred just thinking about it. actually pretty excited. divestar has posted a pic of the libertines set list from cbgbs. libertines, whatta fucking waster... hopefully not. melody says they're not so crazy, but methinks the band will rawk out tonight at luxx. i hear there is an insane amount of peeps attending, and someone i work with is in beauty supply, one of the opening bands. so it should be fun in that way, too. mishka, sorry to hear you're leaving luxx. hopefully you're not straying too far...

music videos!
you should also be on the look out for oxford collapse on cliktrax tonight. they will premiere their video "having a blast in co-op city". great song. can't wait to see the vid. i was just thinking grosse contemp, you should send cliktrax your walkmen short, they might play it on there. i think i have the girl's e-mail somewhere... i'll send it to you. viv, mommy and daddy should have a video, too, no?

siren alert
the siren festival looks like it's going to be fun with Modest Mouse, Hot Hot Heat, Sahara Hotnights, !!!, The Kills, Radio 4, Ted Leo/Pharmacists Northern State, The Pattern, and more... but where are the startime stars? french kicks, brendan benson + wellfed boys, the natural history, the walkmen -- hello, village voice -- please put them on the bill. i'd also like to see blonde redhead on the bill since they couldn't be there last year due to an equestrian accident. check out my pix from last year. part one. part two. part three.

weirdly enough, i've suddenly got yyys fever. i should go pick up that album at some point. i found out today that someone at my job is cousins with nick zinner. nick zinner (i can't bare to call him anything but) seems to always be out on the town, which i think is cool. i love that he still makes it a point to check out other bands and support the scene. i hear he takes superb pictures... or is it some meredith who is related to him, too? maybe both. i like that the walkmen and on!air!library! are on the links page of the yyys official site. things are looking up for me today. i can't get "black tongue" out of my head. the song makes me wanna dance around my office. good thing no one is around this week to tell me to turn it down. pretty much my entire department is in hellay right now for the awards shows. whew. yyys fever all week long!

what time is it?
speaking of nick zinner, guess who will be deejaying at one of the kanine cd release party shows at north six? yep, nick zinner. and with carlos d of interpol, no less. i wrote up a little blurby blurb about the kanine records compilation -- ny: the next wave -- and three-night party. it's up on the startime site. check it. also note that dj startime, aka isaac green, will be spinning his covetous collection at red and black this friday... so come and dance after the libertines, raveonettes, or whatever else you're doing. crashin' in, for sure! and it's FREE. i like that word.

d'oh!
btw, i fucked up and lost my mclusky wrap up from last week. i'm sorry. it makes me awfully sad, and i don't think i can even recreate what i said. the gist of it was that rachel and i met the guys and they were nice. we talked for a while in the chilly wind of houston street. i had "to hell with good intentions" in my head while i shifted my feet to and fro to stay warm and animated during the convo. i can still imagine the sweat dripping off of andy's face as he was singing. i was way too close to him. i had a total crush on him but he seemed somewhat elusive. he did end up talking to us for a bit outside though on his ciggy break. the bass player was rockin' too... we didn't meet the drummer. i was so happy that the band came to nyc again because i had missed their prior performances. other people told me that the sound was good at the merc lounge, so it was probably just the fact that i was literally two inches away from the singer that skewed my hearing. acoustics are always better a little farther back. and only after several beers. i remember i couldn't afford to drink bourbon that night. the living is not so easy, as they say.

nick has orange kicks!

french kicks played three new songs tonight that were pretty different from their one time bells songs. 'swonderful. so much fun. instead of nick's crotch, i stared at his kicks for much of the set. he kept trying to get the half empty bowery ballroom to come in closer and closer. i felt like it was show and tell. intimate-like. wish more peeps were there to support. said hi to lonnie, hugh, and josh. i love that josh put his foot on some photog, and i asked him if he knew the guy and he said, "no. i just thought he would enjoy it." i couldn't stop laughing after that. i wish i had gotten a picture of that! but i was off-duty for much of the night. here are a few pics from the night. told hugh i knew derek and asked about the recoys release and show. forgot to tell lonnie that i think he gives the best advice on wwfkd. the best! my pictures make the show seem like some kind of circus. i kind of like that.
