dreams and reality
i had the strangest
dream last night. everywhere i went i kept running into the french
kicks, and i would always say, "hey guys, look, there're
the french kicks -- that bunch with the tall guy!" very strange.
it has been a long
strange trip for jinners in new york music. there are so many
reasons that the music in this city makes me feel alive. we all
have our reasons. for me, music is an escape, and if i can fall
into your music and enter another fantastical world, then i love
your music and will proclaim it to everyone who will listen. everyone
i run into always brings up the fact that i love the walkmen and
i'm like their biggest fan or whatever. that may be true, but
not without merit. the band literally creates another dimension
with their music, a plane that is unique and raw, and that's what
i'm about. there are few superficial tunes that will win me over.
i need substance. i need meat. i need soul. if my heart can grab
onto one note or one lyric, then that is enough for me to take
that quantum leap and feel the sentiment behind the music and
words. i hope that i've been able to express to you why i keep
this site up. writing has always been my form of self expression,
and now with the nyc rock scene i have also taken up concert photography
to help illustrate what i am seeing. hopefully this will make
you go out and check out the music to experience what i am seeing,
and draw your own conclusions. that is all for now.

get thee to an earlimart with a zetamale

jinners
earlimart and zetamale
took over the mercury lounge last night with their sensitive rockin'
and rollin'. both bands have songs that teeter between soft/mellow
and aggro/abandonment, if you know what i mean (and i'm sure you
don't). i wish i had taken more (and better photos). here's what
i came up with for now...

by the way, check this out:
INTO THE BOGGS
check out my interview
with jason friedman of the brooklyn-based band, the boggs! he
talks about the band's tour with the rapture, musical inspirations,
and what the heck is a bogg anyway? we know you wanna know...
also note
that the recoys reunion show has been moved to when derek is in
town! mark your calendars and shite.

mooners drink for free!
photo:
rachel lovinger
starfoods has the
best bourbon and gingerales in the world. yeah, you heard me.
and the best bartenders and owner/managers to boot. byron and
dave, holla! this place is always a blast, and throughout my night
i kept hearing walkmen songs interspersed with the cure, velvet
underground, etc. what more could i ask for? dave wore the infamous
"i'm not a mooner!" tee shirt, which byron told me will
soon be retired (noooo!!!). so i took a photo of it for posterity's
sake. i loooooove that shirt. dave told rachel that he has a tendency
to take off his clothes in public and throw live lobsters at patrons
of 7a. (poor poor julian!) dave and his friends sound like a mad
men -- guys we'd definitely like to hang with in and out of starfoods!
the gang was all
there to celebrate not getting soaked in the rain during radiohead's
two hour set at starfoods. word:
p.s.
bidi, i got your dance mix... are you trying to convert me? it
may be working. i feel like i'm in the 80s and i'm dancing at
the factory. i did however prefer dance mix 2 to dance mix 1.
how come i don't remember the moving units sounding this good
live? yowza. i still don't like !!! -- you can never convert me
there. haha. listening to scene creamers reminds me of the times
i saw the makeup play at nyu. damn, am i getting old or what?
i'm starting to have rock flashbacks. anyhoo, here's the tracklisting
for bidi's superior dance mix 2:
1) u.n.k.l.e. --
nursery rhyme
2) trans am -- randy groove
3) radio 4 -- dance to the underground
4) the faint -- worked up so sexual
5) moving units -- between us and them
6) the rapture -- house of jealous lovers
7) fischerspooner -- you're my disco
8) roysopp -- eple
9) liars -- pillars are hollow and filled with candy so we tore
them down
10) moving units -- i am
11) the fever -- ladyfingers
12) moving units -- x and y
13) radio 4 -- our town
14) the faint -- your retro caerrer has melted
15) radio 4 -- save your city
ok, so i'm making
a mix cd for a certain entertainment magazine editor who currently
listens to the likes of good charlotte (i already scolded him),
and would love any suggestions from the on the moon readers. go
ahead, shout it out on the tag-board!
btw, jco, if you're
reading this: i want my liars ep back! i didn't realize how much
i missed it until i listened to bidi's mixes! thankee. we should
hang out some time, too, when you're back in the hood. maybe brunch
at lola's or something like that.
there are a few new
quizzes on the quizzes page. check
it.
