french kick off your weekend!

photo: french kicks

oh boy, french kicks redesigned their site, but where oh where is hugh? link from the jean genie. and from dawny b, the french kicks aren't an indie rock band. they're really cops!! oh, and of course, ham and josh at paul's wedding. more photos here.

vorrasi, i got that elefant photo from the kemado site.

pretty girls make graves were really good last night. i stood in the back near the merch/food booths and her voice carries over the water, smooth yet furious.

earlimart are playing tinkle this weekend.

the walkmen are playing the hudson river park concert on august 7 with adam green and the oranges band. pier 54. be there or be square. they are also playing maxwell's september 7. bidi says buy tickets or else! i might be there.

speaking of popular dc bands, i've been listening to the carlsonics all day. me likey. they are playing pianos on july 26, the same night as neko case. i think i can do both...

chatted with badbargain today. nice nice. she recommended i listen to smog. that's the next thing i will buy. i recommended she listen to the seconds. i think it was a fair trade. i love meeting new people.

tinkle tinkle little moonie

i went to tinkle last night for the first time, and it was so much fun! i was toasted on four bourbon and gingers, and could not stop laughing the entire time... of course, when i met david cross, i shouldn't have tried to be so funny. he's the comedian, not me! i don't think he laughed at any of my jokes. haha! i was feeling particularly goofy and albert from the strokes and nick zinner from the yyys were there, so when i was coming down the stairs, i was being all dramatic and bumped katy (who was talking to todd barry) into albert strokes. fun fun fun! excuse me for my silliness. also, i think albert spent most of the time on his cell phone, and he was definitely eyeing the bartendress. but maybe he was making important decisions on his cellie. i guess everyone needs to take a break from recording and get some laughter. according to kittenpants, albert is at tinkle a lot. hey, any guy that can appreciate comedy is cool by me. i also couldn't get over the fact that michael showalter was there. i used to worship the state. my god. i couldn't stop staring. and he was so funny in wet hot american summer. tinkle is really addictive. i think i might go next week, too. laughter makes the world go 'round, no?

vodka vodka vodka

so you might be wondering, what happened to me on thursday? well, i got out of work early. walked around town with new friend kevin in the sweaty heat. felt completely gross. was waiting for rachel to get out of work, and we decided to get a head start on the drinking. and yes, we ended up at the russian vodka room, downing six test tubes of flavored vodkas. yummmy! ginger, raspberry, strawberry, peach, and more! we were so drunk by the time rachel got there, my head was swimming, but it was a good buzz. there were these funny russian women who were so obviously plastered next to us. they asked kevin to watch their bags. "we go out for smoke! you watch our bags?" it was awesome. our snotty waitress was awesome too, snobbery is part of the charm of the place i think.

then we decided to go see reverend jen's movie, electra elf and fluffer, directed by nick zedd, at the collective unconscious on the LES. it was the funniest shite ever! engelbert humperdink was the opening act and he gave anna his scarf. the ladies did swoon! he was totally faboo. and then we saw the indie spoofy flick. fluffer was a chihuahua, very yo quiero taco bell. reverend jen played electra elf. she had these pointy ears and super-lispy voice. rachel from trachtenberg family was also in it... a small cameo, but really funny if you know who the trachtenberg family slideshow players are. overall it was lots and lots of fun.

afterwards, the buzz started wearing off. we needed more drinks, but had spent so much dough at the russian vodka room, we were pretty broke. so instead of going to motherfucker, where we would have to pay to get in and then spend more money on drinks, we decided to go to this free cd release party i had been invited to earlier in the week. dj erick "more" morillo was celebrating the release of subliminal sessions five, and we were there (word). we saw chingyi and jen in line and said hello. the guys behind us got irritated because we were butting in line and wanted to pick a fight with poor innocent kevin. the bouncers stopped it though, and we went to the back of the line (like we cared!). later i saw the publicist and he got us tickets (which i heard were $20 each to the public), and wristbands to get free drinks at the bar. sweet!

inside there were smoke machines-a-blowing, and plenty of justin timberlake, jay-z, beyonce, michael jackson, and yes they played the original "glamorous life", which made me think we were all missing the fever's "glamorous life". how strange how it all comes full circle. how come nobody has reported on motherfucker yet? what did i miss?
