jinners: why do you come here? and why do you hang around?
who is jinners?
why do you come here? and why do you hang around? ...it was just to see, just to see all the things you knew, i'd written about you... oh so many illustrations...
jinners is my nickname... hopefully in an affectionate sorta way.
Hey Peoples, Cheeseburger is playing February 1 & 2 with Bang Camaro at Maxwells and Music Hall. Get ready to tear up groundhogs and whatnot. If you saw the 'Burger at my Knitting Factory show in December, you will know why I love this band so much.
with Diplo, Blaqstarr, DJ Sega, Rye Rye, Diplo, Uenemployed Lloyd, Rocktakon Hosted by Pase Rock
10pm-4am, $7, Upstairs + Downstairs
It is a Klash of the Titans at 205. Diplo brings the force upstairs, flanked by DJ Blaqstarr (Baltimore’s finest), feisty little Rye Rye (“shake it to the ground and bring it on up”), and boy-wonder DJ Sega. These three kids - whose median age is something crazy like 17 – are the future. Seriously, take notes.
Meanwhile, the Big Fun duo (Lloydski and Roctakon) drop disco frenzy downstairs all night, and Pase Rock makes sure the festivities get out of hand. Who will come out on top with sound supremacy? The vote is in your hands, America.
There is so much going on on New Year's Eve this year. Usually I like to stay in with the mister and have a cozy toast, but this year I will actually be out and about! And I am super excited about it, almost like how I felt when I went to see the Realistics at Mercury Lounge way back in the day. Oh yeah, that was fucking ages ago. I haven't been out to a proper NYE celebration since then. I've either been in the recording studio or just at home with bottles of bubb. Come join me in attending most of the awesome events going on below...
Yes, I have that hollerdaze sickness that's going around. I know I have been a little quiet lately, but December is the busiest month of the year with all of the holiday fuss, too many parties, too much whiskey, too much too much too much. But even though I'm sick, I love the adrenaline rush that comes with hustle and bustle and am majorly bummed thahttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gift I am missing out on quite a few exciting things going on this week.
Last night was the Tell All Your Friends and Gigantic Holiday party, and I so wanted to be there drowning my cold with the free Bushmills, but I knew from the night before that whiskey would only be a temporary solution and that I would probably just get sicker the next day.
The last treats club meeting is tonight, and I can't go sneeze on the gingerbread house they are going to be building. I've always wanted to make one of those cute little candy houses. Bugger!
I am also missing the French Kiss Records party over at B-Side with Les Savy Fav on the decks. The only consolation is that I plan to attend the LSF-extravaganza on New Year's Eve, right after I see The Big Sleep and Earl Greyhound rock the Mercury Lounge. 2008 is going to be special.
Tomorrow night there is a concert for the new Judd Apatow film Walk Hard. How I want to be there so badly!!! I sort of adore Mike Viola and wanted to see the songs performed live by John C. Reilly. How comically brilliant is that going to be? Majorly, I say.
Hopefully I will be better by the time Friday rolls around so that I can see one of my faves, A Place To Bury Strangers, take the Bowery Ballroom stage by storm with The Cloud Room, The Giraffes and Blacklist.
Let's Get Crazy. Mondays are the new Thursday, Innit?
Preview of My 5th Year Anniversary Show From the Village Voice: Cheeky Brooklyn trio Cheeseburger have won themselves plenty of Stooges comparisons with vocalist Joe Bradley’s whiskey-soaked growl, their sloppy three-chord romps about cocaine and sex, and their fun, filthy stage shtick. With Dirty on Purpose/Shorebirds alt-country psych-rock side-project Neckbeard Telecaster and Frenchkiss post-rockers the Big Sleep, who are set to release the follow-up to their thumping, feedback-drenched freak-out Son of Tiger in February. Also: Coin Under Tongue. [jinners note - coin under tongue are like a heavier, southern nirvana. in other words, they rule!]

coin under tongue opening for spoon tomorrow at rockefeller park
coin under tongue is opening for spoon tomorrow, july 11, at a free show at rockefeller park. coin under tongue is led by joe kelly, whose fierce, magnetic, scratchy vocals are like a southern kurt cobain. a hardcore nirvana. with heavy basslines provided by george wilson of dirty on purpose and monstrous drumming by his brother greg, i think this is going to be awesome. every time i've seen this band, there has been a mosh pit. if there is rain tomorrow, be prepared for a mudpit! they go on at 6pm. spoon is on at 7pm. see you there!
this new magazine that my friend carol has been working for is pretty awesome. it's called good magazine and it covers a lot of worthy topics that young and informed people would be into... even including moi, and i'm not even that informed. yet somehow this magazine inspires me to be more so.
see below, i guess "loving day" is something i should be happy about since i'm in an interracial relationship -- though i never think about it like that, strangely enough.

Langhorne Slim, The GoStation, Neckbeard Telecaster and More to Play Drew Goren Memorial Fund Benefit Show at Luna Lounge
Brooklyn artists like Langhorne Slim, The GoStation and Neckbeard Telecaster are banding together to help raise money for the Drew Goren Memorial Fund at a special concert at Luna Lounge in Brooklyn on June 30. Put together by Doug Levy of The GoStation, this show benefits the family of Drew Goren, a photographer who was loved and respected by many. I posted some info below to give you a sense of who he was (I didn't know him personally). I am touched by his story, and I hope you are, too. Come out and support this very worthy cause. Also playing the show are Rockethouse and Sikamor Rooney.
Drew Goren, a gifted photographer and friend, passed away on December 19th, 2006. In March of 2005, the unimaginable news that Drew had stage IV cancer at the young age of thirtyone came as a huge shock to everyone who loved him. Yet, still Drew would continue on to work through the last year and half, almost harder then ever. He often squeezed photo shoots inbetween chemo sessions. And although it began to get painful for him to even walk his subjects were never even aware of his disease; he always preferred they not make allowances. Drew worked because he loved photography, not because he had to. A fund has been established for Drew's 5 year-old daughter, Nina, and her mom, Julia. Contributions can be made through the Talbert Family Foundation and are tax-deductible. Please designate your funds to "Drew Goren Memorial Fund."
To check out Drew Goren's photography, please visit his website subwaysleeper.
