There are a lot of bands I don't fancy these days, but today I woke up to find this little gem in my inbox. I actually like what I hear... the electronic dreamy and sort of dark sounds of Psychic Powers from Los Angeles. The duo, Nik Brinkman & Alejandro Cohen, kind of remind me of New Order. There is a playfulness present in their music, but those vocals are cool and somber just like Bernard Sumner. I especially like "Running" and "Special Boy."

Dirty on Purpose release their new song on RCRDLBL.com today called "The Thing About Getaways." It is the third song released from their digital-only EP, Dead Volcanoes, exclusively on RCRDLBL.com. They have previously released "Leaving" and "Hard To Tell You," and all three are currently available for free download here: http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Dirty_On_Purpose/music. The fourth and final song on this EP, "Canned Fumes," will be released next month.

One of my favorite young alt-country bands, Sam Champion, have released a single with RCRDLBL.com today called "Your Party Was Yesterday." Things have been quiet in Sam Champion-land lately, but I'm glad to see they are continuing to write and record. They'll be releasing a single every month through March, so keep an eye out.

I've been enjoying the songs on the site, which I'm sure I will start to discover in my own pace... Check out this Bad Veins song called "Gold and Warm." This song made me smile today.
