I went to a screening for Shut Up Little Man!, a film from Tribeca Films. The documentary explores the phenomenon of viral cassette recordings of two San Francisco aging alcoholics named Peter and Raymond.
These recordings ended up being released by Matador at the height of its popularity and spread swiftly through the artistic, comic and underground community — all this before the Internet was born and viral videos became the daily norm.
It is fascinating to learn about the history of these recordings, but even more poignant is learning the nature of the relationship between Peter and Raymond. That was truly touching and provocative.
Go see it at IFC Center when it officially premieres on Sept 16!
